Exalted One! (a Prayer for Brigid)

Posted on: February 1st, 2012 by Thorn 3 Comments

A prayer for the Goddess Brigid, on this, Her day:

Exalted One!
You who kindle flames on every hill,
For you, we light the fires.

Exalted One!
You who give the thirsty ones to drink,
To you, we proffer water.

Exalted One!
You who shape the silver and the gold,
To you, we give adornment.

Exalted One!
You who inspire poetry and song,
To you, we sing.

Exalted One!
You who tend the birthing of the lambs,
For you, we give thanks!

Exalted One!
You who heal our bodies, minds, and souls,
For you, we dance!

We raise our cups of water, wine, and beer. In the light of glimmering candles, we feast, read poetry, and dance. We raise our voices, to praise your name: Brigid of the greening land, Brigid of the morning bright, Fiery Arrow, Protector, Blessed One! We offer thanks for all the gifts we now possess, and the gifts that are to come. Hail!

.

Anxious? Find what you love.
Ecstatic? Find what you love.
Sorrowing? Find what you love.
Angry? Find what you love.
Hopeful? Find what you love.
Despondent? Find what you love.
Determined? Find what you love.
Peaceful? Find what you love.
Complacent? Find what you love.
Joyous? Find what you love.
Dying?  Find what you love.
Alive?  Find what you love.

Hallowed Light

Listen to this song:

We are stars fallen down to earth
Kissed-cold with darkness, burning.
We reckon out each moment from our birth.
Finding new ways to shine.

Band together, earthly ones!
Blend your brightness whole, and sing!
Reclaim the wings of angels, strong,
Bring forth now, the change!

We are the ones

We seed the earth,
With hallowed light.
The core burns through
This longest night.

There is no apocalypse to come,
No messiah leads our journey
There is now this chance to turn the wheel,
For sleeping ones to rise!

Band together, earthly ones!
Blend your brightness whole, and sing!
Reclaim the wings of angels, strong,
Bring forth now, the change!

We are the ones

We seed the earth,
With hallowed light.
The core burns through
This longest night.

We are these sleepers, waking from long night.
We are anointed ones who claim this sun.
Dawn now. Shine now. Burn brightly. Live.

While working on my annual Winter Solstice poem, I realized – Monday morning – that it was really a song. I contacted Winter of El Mundo Bueno Studios to see if he had any time to work on it. We spent a couple of hours on the project Monday afternoon and this is the result. While we may go back in at a later date to finesse some things, for now, it is my Solstice gift to you. If you care to make any donations to Solar Cross for our various projects, it will be appreciated, but not expected. Click on the link at the top to listen! Blessed be.

Transgender Day of Remembrance

Here is the prayer, begun by Tristissima, and added to by myself, for all of those fallen to hatred, fear, and misunderstanding.

What is remembered, lives.

Antinous, read the names of the dead.
Hoor-paar-kraat, remember the names of the dead.

Baphomet, look at the names of the dead.

Shall We Dance?

I dreamt last night of waltzing

As a civil disobedience.

Hundreds of us moving

‘til our skins bumped into sweat.

And still we swung together

Bodies joyful, bodies wondrous

As we danced our friends

Away from the police.

I awoke in pre-dawn quiet

Of a city after rain.

And I felt dawn shifting – possible-

Within my whispering chest.

As the neighbor rolled his trashcans

To the sidewalk in the blackness

And the cat decided

Long enough in bed.

In such a time as this one

We can take a chance to open

As a wind moves heavy clouds

- Exiting night.

Soft wistfulness of longing

Streaming outward on a breath.

Shifting in indigo -

Begin to dream of light.

A still, pre-dawn is falsehood

Salmon yet will ribbon sky.

It is cold enough outside now,

Will you waken?

Or will we in our shivering,

Lips close and warm, yet cracking,

Like a cluster bomb hits earth

Be split apart?

We can waken into dancing

And extraordinary sameness.

With a softness in our gaze

The world will melt.

With a need to move together,

Let us waken, windy morning.

Let us listen now,

And learn new ways to love.

(I wrote this poem as part of my Solstice series – for Winter Solstice, 2001 – and was awakened by its opening words early this morning)

Walpurgisnacht Manifesto, 2011

Today, I stand for beauty.
I stand for apple blossom and finch.
I stand for sun, and wind, and sky.
I stand for the shaking of the fig tree,
And the growing of the lettuce and the pea.

Today, I stand for beauty.
I stand for music to lighten the soul.
I stand for healing balms to comfort wounds.
I stand for kind words in the tempest,
And a scrap of bright cloth in the mud of war.

Today, I stand for beauty.
Heart open to the world.
Today, I conjure hope. And strength.
With the courage and the love to carry on.
Leap the fire with me,
In Beauty’s name.

Blessings be upon you. Blessings, all.

Courting Meditation

Green hummingbird
At geometric dance
Before high window.

Laughter of delight
Penetrates still meditation.
Thank you, brother bird.

Breathe, courting vibration
From the belly up the spine.
What do you court today?
